In the WoW folder, create a new folder called Interface (if it doesn’t already exist) 5. Open that folder, create another one inside it, called AddOns (again, if it doesn’t already exist) 6. Open the AddOns folder 7. Copy the files from the folder on your desktop into the AddOns folder 8. Log into game. Use WowMatrix to Download, Install and Update Your Favorite World of Warcraft AddOns! Before starting your game, just fire up WowMatrix and let it update. A large collection of WoW WoTLK Addons (2.4.3). EDIT: not using curse client. pretty sure it did harm to my old pc. even after I would uninstall it, it would keep popping up a window asking me to redownload it even though i didn't want it.
EDIT AGAIN: To Dankorii. As for my question. Which buttons do I need to click in order to extract the files?
OK, since you use Winrar the process is a little different.
After having saved the downloaded addon folder to your desktop, you should now have an icon of stacked books labeled with the addons name.
Double click on that icon > the Winrar window will open up > highlight every folder related to the addon > click on the 'Extract to' button located at the top of the Winrar window > locate the directory where the addon will be installed, which should be inside of the World of WarcraftInterfaceAddOns folder.

If they're not updated to the latest patch, you'll need to open up the Addons menu from character selection and check 'Load out of date addons'.
If they aren't on that list, or the Addons button doesn't show up, I would check your install path. Each addon should be in a separate folder, with the exact name of the addon itself, with a path like this:
World of WarcraftInterfaceAddonsAddon_Name_Here
If there's an extra folder in the file path, or a missing one, the addon won't load properly.
There's also an FAQ for installing addons over in our UI and Macro forum.

You'll need to extract the addon from the zip archive and then place that extracted folder in your InterfaceAddons directory located in the game directory.
You can get to the game directory by clicking on the options menu on the launcher (located under the game title) and selecting Show in Explorer.

This thread is from several years ago. Locking this one, but if you need help with your addons the UI/Macro forums are a better bet for you.
Have we really regressed this much? Is there a new site I'm not aware of? As an example, I went to download 'Bartender4' but couldn't find it on Curse. Found it on WoWInterface, so downloaded it there even though it seemed suspiciously outdated (July 12, 2017). I then searched the site for 'MoveAnything' and noticed the 2012 timestamp. So I googled and found it on Curse.
This is insane. To make matters worse, I can't actually browse Curse by category because it just returns a bunch of compilations that include that category. Browsing the action bars section, for example, returns stuff like ElvUI edits and rotation 'helpers' (the fact that these rotation helpers are even popular is pathetic, but that's a complaint for another time).
Anyway, is this really the state of affairs?
However, you can still search/browse them easily:
https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons
That said, the easiest way to find and update addons is the Twitch Client (formerly Curse Client)
https://www.curseforge.com/twitch-client
Hmmm...
Yes....
I see...
Ok.
The solution to that it's to use the twitch app to keep your addon settings backed up and your addons updated and installed properly. Using the Twitch app uninstall and reinstall the broken addin.
If that doesn't work, disable half your addons and see if that problem continues. Repeat until the problem is found.
You may also need to do this.

What's the deal with the 'fragmentation' of addon hosting? Curse is a mess to browse now, and some very basic stuff is missing. WoWInterface tends to have outdated versions. WoW-Freakz looks like a 14 year old found an 2006 PHP-Nuke tutorial.
I'm not sure which addons you are looking at on WoWInterface, but the ones I regularly use are updated frequently. Some may take longer than others and some authors seem to update Curse first.
Oh, wait . . . .
I use WoW Interface as a first selection (the site is not the nightmare that curse is and its forums see frequent use), only looking on Curse when I can't find what I'm looking for or when what I find isn't the most up-to-date.
I refuse to install the Curse/Twitch update client -- I honestly don't trust them -- but I do use WoW Interface's Minion for a bit of convenience, but honestly a download client just isn't necessary to use a d/l client, just use a favorites list, check once a week or so, and manually download.
Both are easy and accurate to search so if you're having issues you might want to explain how you're trying to search them. I really dislike Curse but it's search function isn't bad.
